Launch of TJREVERB is the Culmination of Seven-Year Project by TJ Space

November 18, 2022
On Tuesday, November 22 at the Kennedy Space Center, Florida, NASA is scheduled to launch the TJ REVERB CubeSat as part of the SpaceX-26 Commercial Resupply Service Mission en route to the International Space Station. The launch is the culmination of seven years of hard work for TJ Space. Led by Robotics lab director Kristen Kucko, many students from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology have had a hand in this historic launch. Read more about it here!

TJ Educational Experience – PC (re)Builder’s Club

TJ's PC (re)Builder's Club is an eighth period activity where students can learn how to build computers and repair broken systems. They will then donate those refurbished computers to the local community.

TJ Educational Experiences: Collecting Samples from Jefferson Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery

Students in Dr. Burnett's DNA Research lab have been working in collaboration with officials from the Jefferson Memorial and Arlington National Cemetery to collect biofilm from a black mold type substance that has been growing on them. The purpose is to find out exactly what this substance is and how park officials can best keep these important landmarks clean.

TJ Orchestra Performs Original Piece at Lunch for Students

TJHSST Students Use Coding and Creativity to Communicate with Non-Verbal Elementary Students

As the day winds down at Freedom Hill Elementary in Vienna, students across the building are antsy and ready to head home. But in one classroom for students with intellectual disabilities, Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. is the highlight of the week. It’s the time they get to Zoom with their ‘buddies’ from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

United States Space Force Leaders Visit TJHSST

On Wednesday, General John W. “Jay” Raymond (TJ Class of ’80), head of the United States Space Force, along with NASA Astronaut Col. Nick Hague, US Space Force visited TJHSST as part of their “Stem to Space” program.

TJ Educational Experiences - IBET Team Works on Phototherapy Project

Recently, the Fisher, Iyengar, Klein, Hamblin IBET team joined Engineering Tomorrow’s founder, Dr. William Woodburn, and Program Coordinator Constance Chiplock for a week-long phototherapy project designed to measure the potential benefits of blue light therapy on health.

Eighth Period Activities Provide TJ Students with Variety of Options

One of the things that makes Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology unique is its eighth period program. With students located in four different counties, some living as far as 50 miles from the school, it can be difficult for them to stay after school for activities. So, TJ brings the “afterschool programs” to the school day.

Washington Post Does Story on TJ Football Team

October 19, 2021
The Washington Post recently wrote an article about our Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology football team. The team is 5-2 on the year and coming off a 31-6 Senior Night victory over Paul Public Charter on Oct. 15. TJHSST started 4-0 for the first time since it transitioned to a STEM school in 1985.
