TJHSST Students Use Coding and Creativity to Communicate with Non-Verbal Elementary Students

As the day winds down at Freedom Hill Elementary in Vienna, students across the building are antsy and ready to head home. But in one classroom for students with intellectual disabilities, Wednesdays at 2:30 p.m. is the highlight of the week. It’s the time they get to Zoom with their ‘buddies’ from Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology.

Catching Up with Brian Tubergen ('09) - Forbes 30 Under 30 Honoree

Forbes magazine recently released its annual 30 under 30 lists, which honor people under 30 years of age for impressive accomplishments in their various fields. Two TJ graduates were among the honorees, including Brian Tubergen (’09), who was honored in the finance category. Tubergen has become heavily involved in the emerging cryptocurrency world. He founded his company CoinList, which is an investment platform that allows people to track and invest in different types of cryptocurrencies. He was kind of enough to give his thoughts on his time at TJ and how it helped prepare him for his current life.

A Q-and-A interview with TJHSST graduate Peter Andringa ('16) after he was named a Rhodes Scholar. He will be heading to Oxford in the Fall of 2021 to study Social Science of the Internet at the Oxford Internet Institute.

tjTODAY Earns Prestigious Pacemaker Award

The NSPA and the JEA announced the winners of their most prestigious honor, the Pacemaker Award. Thomas Jefferson High School for Science and Technology’s student-run newspaper, tjTODAY, was named a winner in the newspaper/newsmagazine category.
