TJHSST Online Course Policy
Enrolling in an Online Campus Course During the School Year
TJHSST students are able to meet all graduation requirements by taking classes offered within the building during the regular school day. However, TJHSST permits students to enroll in one course per academic year through FCPS Online Campus as one of their 7 classes. There is no tuition fee for Online Campus courses if taken as one of the student's 7 classes.
Mandatory virtual classes are held once a week for 60-90 minutes in the late afternoon or early evening. More information about class meeting days and times is available on the Online Campus website. There are no exceptions to the Online Campus schedule for class meeting days; therefore, if your personal or extracurricular commitments create a conflict with the class meeting day, you will not be able to enroll in the course.
To ensure a balanced load of 7 courses, an "Off Campus" period release will be scheduled into one of the periods (typically during 1st period) to accommodate the Online Campus course. Students are expected to remain off campus and provide their own transportation to TJHSST to accommodate this course.
Students pursuing this option should state their intent to their counselor during academic advising. The counselor will need to register the student for the online campus course, in addition to the student requesting the course in SIS StudentVUE. Please ensure that your child has selected the correct course code for Online Campus courses, as they are different from those offered within the building at TJHSST.
At TJHSST, students are eligible to take a course through FCPS Online Campus under these circumstances and are expected to remain off campus during the period release:
- Any student taking one Online Campus course for elective credit who needs a period release
- A senior in the Mentorship Program taking one Online Campus course for required or elective credit who needs a period release during 5th period
- Any student taking one Online Campus course for required or elective credit who has an approved FCPS SS/SE 215 Waiver
Exception for Students to Remain on Campus during the Release Period:
Students may be granted permission to remain in the building and given a placement in the TJHSST library if they are taking one course through FCPS Online Campus that is required for graduation but is not offered at TJ, such as Levels 1-3 of Korean, ASL, and Arabic. Library placement is not available for students taking a course through Online Campus that is offered at TJHSST.
Enrolling in an 8th Course During the School Year
FCPS students may take an extra 8th high school credit per academic year. Students pursuing this option should state this intent to their counselor during academic advising. The counselor will need to register the student for the online campus course, in addition to the student requesting the course in SIS StudentVUE.
At TJHSST, students are eligible to take an 8th course for elective credit only outside the school day through FCPS Online Campus. Mandatory virtual classes are held once a week for 60-90 minutes in the late afternoon or early evening. More information about class meeting days and times is available on the Online Campus website.
Exception: The only graduation requirement that may be taken as an 8th course applies to students in grades 9-11 who enroll in Economics & Personal Finance (non-AP) or the Self-Directed Economics & Personal Finance course.
If students have not completed a graduation requirement by the start of their 12th grade year, they will be required to do so during the school day in their senior year. Though they may still take an 8th course for elective credit.
Tuition Information:
- Online Campus 8th course tuition is $680 ($340 for students with reduced lunch or $68 for students with free lunch eligibility).
- Self-Directed EPF tuition is $130 ($65 for students with reduced lunch or $13 for students with free lunch eligibility).
- The tuition fee will be invoiced by FCPS, not TJHSST, during quarter 1.
