Name of Course/Module: Design for Fun with Onshape!

Subject Area: Technology 

Course Description: Hey, Future Designers! This Technical Drawing and Design summer enrichment course will be a head start to the Freshmen IBET program. Students will learn the basic language of technical drawing using an Onshape, a CAD software as they create designs, sketches, and 3D print the models. Using Arduino/ Electronics, you will build prototypes of real world engineering problems. 

Eligibility: Current 6th and 7th Graders

Name of Course/Module: To the Moon!

Subject Area: Astronomy

Course Description: The Moon is a familiar sight in the sky and has long been an object of fascination and inspiration. This course will teach you about the basics of our nearest neighbor: its formation, composition, cratering, past missions to the Moon, and future missions. Students will also learn the basics of skills like robotics, computer-aided design, and 3d printing that will help us go and stay on the Moon…for good!

Name of Course/Module: Intro to Oceanography

Subject Area: Earth Science 

Course Description: Learn about the ocean world and how we explore it. Observe and interact with fish, turtles, and crayfish in the TJ lab. Fun projects and crafts. Includes field trips.

Eligibility: Current 6th and 7th Graders

Name of Course/Module: Hands-on Environmental Science

Subject Area: Environmental Science 

Course Description: In this course, you will be learning about science by completing hands-on experiments! We will measure a snake, learn how to blow up a balloon with yeast, extract DNA from food, compete in evolution, grow/shrink an egg, and solve a murder mystery using lab techniques.

Name of Course/Module: Web Page Design

Subject Area: Computer Science

Course Description: Students will create a company website for a business of their choice. They will start by creating a logo in Photoshop and then create the site using HTML coding and Dreamweaver. Students will study the thought process behind the design, marketing and creation of the business site. They will then create a short infomercial for their company in Flash to incorporate into their website.

Name of Course/Module: Microbes Around Us

Subject Area:Biology

Course Description: In this course, students will be studying cells and microscopic organism using microscopes. We start the course by looking at everyday small objects under the microscope. Then we will study plant cells, Daphnia and other aquatic organisms, and complete a project on disease caused my microbes.

Name of Course/Module: Ethnomathematics – Mathematics as a historical study

Subject Area:Math 

Course Description: Did you ever wonder who you had to blame for having to do Quadratic Equations? Did you ever think that some nerd sitting in a room wrote all the “rules” for math? Wonder no longer and place the blame (or credit) squarely where it belongs! Learn how to do Egyptian mathematics in hieroglyphs and more!
