Growth and Performance in Coursework

Measurable Outcome

By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, 100% of 9th grade students scoring below proficient on the initial Math Inventory will demonstrate proficiency on the end of year Math Inventory assessment. 

Strategies and Action Steps

  1. Expand culture of shared responsibility where collaborative teams ensure the learning of every student.
    • Collect and use data from common assessments 
    • Use differentiated teaching practices to effectively scaffold instruction to meet the needs of all learners
    • Implement strategies from Building Thinking Classrooms to support a learner-centered classroom
  2. Increase student course success through Tier 2 interventions
    • Work towards mastery in ALEKS system for all freshmen students
    • Small group instruction during flexible instructional time with a focus on specific algebra topics. 
    • Implement parallel teaching as the master schedule allows to address student needs 


Successful Completion of Advanced Coursework

Measurable Outcome 

By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, all students who have grades lower than a B in ELA classes at first quarter will improve by at least one grade level (i.e. C+ to B-). 

Strategies and Action Steps

  1. Increase development of literacy skills and habits of mind across disciplines.
    • Incorporate deeper learning strategies, such as thinking routines, into Tier 1 and 2 instruction, and model their use with students and staff
    • Continue use of CT support and strategies to support student centered instruction 
  2. Monitor student data and use data to determine need for intervention and additional support.
    • Use the PLC cycle to hold Data Dialogues, review assessments, and adjust instruction, continuing to focus on 9th and 10 grade Team Leads and Teams
    • Continue to offer English Worktime sessions through 8th period where students are able to get support and instruction from various English teachers or simply work on ELA assignments in a dedicated time and space, and expand to additional content areas
  3. Expand learning that fosters student voice and choice to support student growth and agency
    • Students will complete quarterly self-reflections to assess their own growth.
    • Leverage texts to support, analyze, and synthesize concepts, focusing on student and teacher choice in addition to exploring diverse texts

Measurable Outcome 

By the end of the 2023-2024 school year, 100% of students will indicate that they experience TJHSST to be a positive school climate with an academically-focused culture, which includes peer-to-peer trust and teacher-student trust.


  1. Increase student awareness and understanding of Academic Integrity 
    • Conduct Town Hall meetings to build understanding across various stakeholder groups.
    • Engage the TJHSST Honor Council and other student groups in developing and facilitating student-driven conversations about academic integrity.
    • Design and facilitate an Advisory curriculum that addresses root causes of academic integrity violations.
  2. Engage staff in the cultivating an academically-focused culture that fosters teacher-student trust.
    • Examine assessment practices and protocols that support students' ability to demonstrate mastery in creative and authentic ways.
    • Support staff in practices of preventing and reporting incidents of student academic integrity violations.
    • Engage in professional learning around delivery of rigorous instruction, assessment development, and promotion of academic integrity.
