December Spotlight:  JOY

Our theme in Student Services for the month of December has been JOY.

We welcomed all ninth graders to Student Services for some festive cheer on December 10 and 11, 2019.  They got to meet the Student Services staff, discovered what brings joy to each staff member outside of work and then shared with us what brings them joy on a giant bulletin board (pictured above*).  We hope they became more comfortable with the Suite and all the resources available to them.

To continue our theme of JOY, we invite the entire TJHSST community to do something over Winter Break that brings you and your family JOY.  We have compiled a list of some of our favorite winter family activities below.

We’d love to know what you and your family do for JOY over the Winter Break and invite you to share a photo or reflection with us!  Please either respond to Mr. Burke's Flipgrid message here (requires a student to log in to their G Suite for Education) or send a message to: @email with JOY in the subject line.

We extend our heartfelt wishes for your family to have a restful, relaxing Winter Break filled with all the joy and wonder of the season.  See you in 2020!

Holly’s Tacky Christmas Lights  If you’ve never driven around Northern Virginia admiring the outrageous displays of Christmas lights, then you’re truly missing out.  We especially love the animated ones set to music! Bring a to-go container of hot chocolate and prepare to be dazzled!

Zoo Lights The Smithsonian National Zoo always does it up with Zoo Lights, and admission is free!  Parking, sadly, is not, but your money goes to a good cause!

Enchant DC - the home of the World Series winning Washington Nationals has been transformed into a Winter Wonderland for the season.  Definitely not free.

Meadowlark  Meadowlark Gardens in Vienna has over a million lights at their annual Winter Walk of Lights.

Bull Run The Bull Run Festival of Lights is over 2.5 miles of dazzling lights - all from the comfort of your own car!

Cameron Run A new ice and lights display with an ice rink, beautifully lit backdrops for photos, music and more! Grab a slice of pizza, some donuts and enjoy the winter village.

Frozen 2  If you must.

A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood Learn about joy from the master, Mr. Rogers.
